Artist Statement

Stop motion is my favorite style of animation and I am going to use it to make a music video of “Explosion” by The Up All Nights. I’m going to use hand drawn pieces and parts to give the animation the feel of the cartoon drawings that I am known for. Then use photoshop and aftereffects to arrange and animate the parts.

I plan to have “performance shots,” but still not too sure if there will be a storyline. Lighters will be an reoccurring image as it is they are the symbol of the band.

Saturday I went to see The Up All Nights play and I recorded them playing a song for reference. (there’s no audio)

Predictions

For this semester I was thinking about doing an animated music video. I am friends with some local bands so I’m thinking about using one of there songs. I’ve narrowed it down to two songs “Explosion” by The Up All Nights http://t.co/ZMtGkTV or “Drop Zone” by Cadaver Dogs http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_4281729. The way I want to animate is to almost do a South Park/Terry Gilliam style of using cut outs and moving them around in stop motion. The peices I want to use would be hand drawn and in my cartoon style and then have them arranged on the computer.  Some examples of what my style looks like.

I did this way before for the JFJ project and I liked it so now I want to take it to the next step.  So I expect this to take the whole semester to do the research, storyboarding, productiong, and editing.

Project Saks Update 1

Stuff to happen

  • It’s raining
  • the door has a Foxy poster on it about the show. It opens and a hand comes out and slaps a stick on reading ‘BANNED!’ and the door shuts again
  • The door reopens some friends and members push out a cart of equipment followed by a wave of people
  • Eric Nally takes fan photos, including mine
  • I walk over to Sammy (one of my friends) who is ringing out his sweat covered cigarettes and compare scars from the moshpit
  • The door reopens and more guys come out with the merch stand and set up on the sidewalk. gets immediate business
  • I get another photo but with Alex Nauth
  • A car pulls up I wave good bye to everyone

Project Saks: BANNED

After some statements said by Eric on stage, as well as already not being on best terms with the owner, Foxy Shazam was banned from the venue after their show. So outside we all went in the cool drizzle, all of us drenched in sweat and various drinks that was spilled on us. But instead of being angry and taking out our frustrations which we all had, instead we just did our normal post concert activities. Me and other fans got pictures of some members of the guys. I talked with my concert buddies, comparing “battle scars”. And because we weren’t aloud to sell merchandise inside, a stand was set up on the sidewalk.

Project John Fergus-Jean Idea: Cadaver Dogs/Look Afraid

In April I went to see a band perform in town called The Young Veins. They were an opening act for Foxy Shazam. But before they came on an unannounced band performed. They were loud. They were hilariously fun. They were amazing. It wasn’t until the next day I found out their name was Look Afraid, a local band who was friends with Foxy.

A couple of months later, they had a listening party at Hot Topic for them and a side band three of them are in called the Cadaver Dogs. A friend and I camped out waiting for them. When they finally arrived, I presented them with one of the cartoons I’ve mentioned before. Apparently I was the first one to make fanart for them, therefore I instantly became a valued fan and friend.

Since then, I’ve tried to go to as many of their shows as I can. Usually the first one there, right in front.
